Aug 3 – 15, 2026. Two acclimation days in Lima and two in Cusco bookend the seven-day Backroads tour through the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and the hills above Cusco.

    Maras Plateau & the Salt Pans

    Sacred Valley

    Morning walk through the best-preserved Inca town in the valley, then a riverside picnic. Afternoon shuttle to Huilloc, a remote Quechua weaving community, for a rare look at authentic rural Andean life. Optional Pablo Seminario ceramics workshop or spa back at the lodge. Dinner on your own at the hotel.

    Morning at the towering Ollantaytambo temple complex, then a traditional pachamanca lunch at a local ecological farm. Afternoon train ride along the Urubamba into the cloud forest. Check into Inkaterra's casitas above the river. Dinner at leisure.

    Machu Picchu — guided afternoon walk

    The big day. Morning at leisure (orchids/birds tour, spa, or market). Late morning, bus up to Machu Picchu for the guided afternoon walk with a local expert — temples, stonework, the story of the rediscovery, and views that justify the whole trip. Dinner in town.

  9. Tue, Aug 11 · Backroads Day 5

    Train back to Cusco & city walking tour

    Aguas Calientes → Cusco

    Scenic train + shuttle back to Cusco. Stroll through San Blas to lunch at Pachapapa, then a guided walking tour of Coricancha and the Cathedral. Free afternoon — Museum of Pre-Columbian Art is included with Backroads. Dinner on your own.

    Tambomachay to Saqsayhuamán hike

    Short shuttle to Tambomachay, then climb to the highest point of the trip before descending through Quechua villages toward Saqsayhuamán's massive stone fortress overlooking Cusco. Farewell dinner tonight.
